Network sharing fairness function with consideration of priority levels
نویسندگان
چکیده
An important issue of computer network management is to distribute network resource fairly to its users. The first quantitative fairness score function 1 2 , , , n F x x x was proposed in 1984 by Jain, Chiu, and Hawe [1] for evaluating network resource sharing fairness. Chen and Zhang [6] proposed another fairness score function 1 2 , , , n G x x x which better fits the real world situation in some cases. This paper considers the situation that the users can have different priority levels. A modified fairness score function * 1 2 1 2 , , , ; , , , n n G x x x w w w is proposed. The proposed fairness score function can deal with the situation that the network resource users have different priority levels, and can keep all the nice properties of 1 2 , , , n G x x x .

Indoor visible light communications (VLC) combines illumination and communication by utilizing the high-modulation-speed of LEDs. VLC is anticipated to be complementary to radio frequency communications and an important part of next generation heterogeneous networks. In order to make the maximum use of VLC technology in a networking environment, we need to expand existing research from studies ...
متن کاملA New Measurement for Network Sharing Fairness
A quantitative measure for the fairness of network resource distribution was proposed in Jain, Chiu and Hawe [1]. This fairness function is widely adopted in network design and management. This paper proposes a new distribution fairness score function. Compared the proposed fairness function to the one by Jain, Chiu and Hawe, the proposed fairness function keeps all the nice properties that Jai...
متن کاملResource arbitration using Neural networks
In this paper we present the functional design of a resource arbiter based on Neural Networks. The decision for the access of the shared resource is based on a multilevel hierarchical Neural Network. The arbitration is based on a winner-take-all scheme and the priority measures are distributed in the neural network’s adaptive weights. The system is designed to learn externally from its history ...
متن کاملRethinking Wireless MAC Architecture for Quality of Service Support – Design and Implementation
Existing wireless MAC standards are known to have fairness problems. In this paper, we ask a more fundamental question: should fairness be a property of medium access, or in other words, are we placing the blame on the right place? We argue that fairness is a property of applications and must be implemented by applications. Medium access control should simply provide mechanisms for application-...
متن کاملTime-Frequency Spectrum Sharing Scheme for Next Generation OFDM Systems
Spectrum sharing and multiple-access techniques are challenging matters for future wireless communication systems. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) has been considered as the most important physical layer candidate for the next generation wireless systems. Alternatively, multiband OFDM (MB-OFDM) approach has shown some novelty and efficiency for high-rate (HR) WPAN applications...
